Troops Out Demo - London 18th March
Author:rich s

This Saturday tens of thousands of people braved the bitterly cold weather to demand the end to the occupation of Iraq, the end to the threat of war with Iran, and the bringing to justice of the war criminals George W Bush and Tony Blair.

Though furious at Blair's war lies and at the consequent US/UK led carnage in Iraq the demonstration remained carnivalesque and good natured with a hugely diverse mix of groups and individuals from Muslim clerics to anarchists and everything in between. The weather, though cold, managed to bless us with bright sunshine - "The sun shines on the righteous" as they say.

It's eternal night for Tony Blair then.

The Sun shines on the Righteous

Physical disability or age proved no barrier to the demonstrators as small children toddled or were carried the winding route along with pensioners and wheelchair users.

The demo, joined by two coaches from Nottingham, threaded its noisey way from Parliament Square, past the Berlin Wall like fortifications of the Palace of Westminster, around the back of St James Park, along Piccadilly to finally arrive in Trafalgar square where a host of speakers including the Mayor - Ken Livingstone addressed the packed audience.

As the sun fell behind the high rises of central London and the temperature once again plummetted, the participants started to make their way home no doubt hoping that this demonstration will hasten further the sun going down on Blair's corrupt government.
