A Message from Brian Eno
Author:rich s
Dear Friend,
I am writing to you because like me, you were concerned by the invasion of Iraq. I hope you don't mind if I contact you about an ongoing legal case that should worry all of us.
In November last year it emerged that a confidential memo of a conversation between George Bush and Tony Blair was leaked to Tony Clarke, an MP who had taken a strong line against the Iraq war. In the memo the leaders allegedly discussed bombing the Al Jazeera TV station in Qatar because the American president disliked its coverage of the Iraq war.
Now the leakers, Leo O'Connor and David Keogh, face prosecution under the Official Secrets Act. On January 24th they will appear at a preliminary hearing.
Quite apart from the civil liberties concerns involved in this prosecution, the memo and the court case go to the heart of the dysfunctional UK-US relationship. It also seems strange that the UK Government wants to pursue the case and risk exposing the dirty linen of its military alliance even further.
It is important to tell the UK Government's law officers to drop the case. To send an email, please go to:
www.vote4peace.org.uk.
To be kept in touch with the case, and for further information, please go to:
www.vote4peace.org.uk.
Thank you for your help.
Yours Sincerely,
BRIAN ENO
